Nearing the 10th annual event, the Hays Bass Anglers Association (HBAA) has been instrumental in hosting the Big Bass Challenge.  For the past nine years, Cedar Bluff Reservoir had been host lake. Due to lower water levels and declining fish populations the event has been moved to red hot Wilson Lake for the 2010 event.   With the help from HBAA members and the Wilson State Park personal, this tournament will continue to be one of the best tournaments in the state.  This tournament has consistently brought several anglers from surrounding states including Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and Oklahoma.  All anglers come from far and wide to become the Big Bass Challenge Champions for the year.

The Big Bass Challenge tournament is set up to give everyone a good chance to win money.  Every hour is a tournament.  Starting at safelight or at the discretion of the challenge committee, the anglers set out to find the largest bass of the day.  Close to the end of each hour, teams will be speeding across the lake to get there bass in before the end of that hour.  There will be 8 hours of fishing.  Official weigh-in will be at Hell Creek Area boat ramp (Wilson State Park).  One legal black bass with I.D. per boat can be weighed-in each hour.  The other partner is to stay with the boat for livewell check. Only 2 black bass are allowed in the livewell at any time during the day.  Except the last hour (2 to 3pm), only one bass is allowed in the livewell  Fish must be in the bag at the top of the hour to count for previous hour weigh-in.  NO DEAD FISH WILL BE ALLOWED

Prizes and awards will be given for the three largest bass weighed in each hour of the tournament.  A grand prize will be awarded for each of the three largest bass weighed in for the entire tournament.  Only one grand prize will be awarded per team.  After winners of hourly cash prizes and overall prizes are verified, the ceremonies will start at weigh-in site.  A barbecue will follow after the tournament for all contestants.

The Hays Bass Anglers Association would like to say thanks to all the anglers that participated the last five years and made the Challenge a success.  I hope all of you will be able to Fish the 10th Annual Big Bass Challenge.  Thanks from all the HBAA members.
